PVC degrades easily at high temperatures. To improve PVC's thermal stability, heat stabilizers.

Low Heat Distortion Temperature
This means that PVC products can easily deform at high temperatures, which affects their performance.

Loss of Strength

Design considerations for PVC Injection Molding

 

Wall Thickness
Whenever possible, apply a uniform wall thickness throughout your part. If you need to use a greater thickness in some areas, make a gradual transition from thinner to thicker sections.

Shrinkage
Injection molded parts shrink as they cool. Compared to other plastics, PVC has a relatively low shrinkage rate (0.2% to 0.5%). If parts shrink unevenly during cooling, warping may occur. To limit the risk of defects, reduce the wall thickness and the size of the mold gate area.

Radii
Sharp corners are difficult to injection mold. They're also more prone to stress concentrations that can result in part failure. Apply radii to the inside and outside corners of your injection molded PVC part.

Draft Angle
Draft is an angle or taper that you apply to the vertical walls of parts so that they eject cleanly from the injection mold.The larger the part length, the larger the draft angle. Using molds with polished surfaces can also make part ejection easier.

Part Tolerance
Tolerances are acceptable variations in size for overall dimensions and part features. As a rule, parts with tighter or finer tolerances are more expensive because they have stricter injection mold and processing requirements.

PVC initially comes in the form of powder or granules, which need to be melted before they can be processed. The granules are placed into a barrel and heated. During the heating process, plasticizers might be added to the mixture to enhance fluidity, lubricants for better demolding, and stabilizers to increase thermal stability.

Once the PVC is in a molten state, the machine's screw pushes it forward, injecting the PVC into the mold cavity. For injection molding, the mold is made by injecting liquefied PVC. This custom mold has two parts.

For an injection mold, the mold making process uses the liquified PVC through an injection. This custom mold has two sides. After the liquid has cooled, it is allowed to dry to set fully. The post-processing includes final touches that might need to be made.

 

 

Runners and Gates

 

During the PVC injection molding process, we can use all the conventional gates. The runner facilitates the molten PVC resin to pass from the sprue to the gate cavity, and the gate consists of three channels that further the material to be ejected into the part cavity.
If we are fabricating small parts, then a needle-type or submarine gate is recommended.
